Online quizzes at Little England to keep in contact even while we’re apart

robert docente little englandMr Rob, our mothertongue English teacher in Year 3 & 4 tells us all about how he helps parents and children stay connected through online quizzes:

Teaching English in Little England does not simply mean introducing another language. We also want to convey another culture, a different way of thinking to enrich the experience of our students … it’s as if they travel the world every time they enter the classroom. Because of Covid, children cannot attend face-to-face lessons but, thanks to technology, we can still communicate with them.

For this reason I thought of proposing quizzes for all the pupils of our primary school and I asked for the involvement of their families too.

Creating and conducting quizzes is part of the English tradition: many schools, families and communities in Britain regularly organise “quiz nights” as social events, to test their curiosities, but above all to have fun!

At Little England, we believe it is important to create a sense of community inside and outside the classroom, so the British-style “good old quiz” seemed entirely appropriate to me.

Initially I was a little worried and I feared that nobody would come to the video conference appointment to participate in the quiz I had prepared. Then I had further doubts: would the internet connection work? Would the questions be too difficult?

I was wrong to worry: about 25 families showed up! It seemed to be at a social event in England! I saw families  organised with drinks and snacks, a big smile and a great desire to get involved. From the first question they “turned on their English brains” and committed themselves to the end.

This was our first quiz night at school ….. but it will certainly not be the last! I am very happy with the result.

As promised, here are the winners of our quiz:
🥇The Mormile Family (43 points)
PiacThe Piacentini Family (42 points)
🥉The Breno Family (41 points)
